Profitability Analysis Vodafone Plc Gross Margin: Gross margin shows how much the firm retains after covering direct cost associated with the product and services. Higher margin means the company retains a higher percentage of sales after covering the cost of goods. 2012 2013 2014 2015 Revenue 46,417 44,445 38,346 42,227 Gross Profit 14,871 13,940 10,404 11,345 Gross margin % 32.04% 31.36% 27.13% 26.87% Vodafone Plc has witnessed downturn in revenue from 2012 to 2014 and a slight recovery in 2015. The gross profit has also followed the same trend. Gross Profit margin declined gradually year on year through last four years. There was the major drop in gross margin in 2014 compared to previous year. Operating Margin: Its a measure of what proportion of revenue is left after covering the variable cost of the production. 2012 2013 2014 2015 Revenue 46,417 44,445 38,346 42,227 Operating Profit 11,187 4,728 - 3,913 1,967 Operating margin % 24.10% 10.64% -10.20% 4.66% The trend of operating margin is not clear and difficult to draw any conclusion from it. But it seems operating margin has a declining trend over last four years. The major downturn in 2014 was due to higher expenses on other operating expenses. Return on capital employed: Return on capital measures the companys profitability and efficiency with which its capital is employed. Higher return is desirable. 2012 2013 2014 2015 EBIT 11,187 4,728 - 3,913 1,967 Total Asset 139,576 142,698 121,840 122,573 Current Liability 24,025 31,224 25,039 28,897 Operating Profit % 9.68% 4.24% -4.04% 2.10% The above table shows that total asset declined over the years when current liability increased. It means, capital employed in the firm declined over last four years. Also, operating profit declined over last four years which is very evident in return on capital employed. The trend of the return on capital employed is declining. Return on capital employed was 9.68% in 2012 which declined to 2.10% in 2015. Hence, profitability and efficiency both measures are concerned for Vodafone Plc. Net Asset Turnover: Net asset turnover shows how asset intensive business is and how efficiently business is using resources. A higher ratio shows the business is asset intensive and its using resource efficiently. 2012 2013 2014 2015 Revenue 46,417 44,445 38,346 42,227 Total Asset 139,576 142,698 121,840 122,573 Current Liability 24,025 31,224 25,039 28,897 Net Asset Turnover 0.40 0.40 0.40 0.45 The trend of net asset turnover is constant over last four years and doesnt signify much about efficiency. As revenue also declined with a decline in total capital employed, the ratio is constant except in final year. Net asset turnover improved marginally in 2015. Looking at the range of values, its clear that the firm is not asset intensive. BT Group Gross Margin: 2012 2013 2014 2015 Revenue 19,265 18,416 18,287 17,979 Gross Profit 5,635 5,952 16,737 16,406 Gross Profit % 29.25% 32.32% 91.52% 91.25% BT Group has witnessed downturn in revenue from 2012 to 2014 and. The gross profit has also followed exactly the opposite trend. Gross Profit margin improved drastically year on year through last four years. There was a major hike in gross margin in 2014 compared to previous year. Operating Margin: 2012 2013 2014 2015 Revenue 19,265 18,416 18,287 17,979 Operating Profit 2,919 2,986 3,145 3,480 Operating Profit % 15.15% 16.21% 17.20% 19.36% The trend of operating margin is positive and its easy to draw the conclusion that operating margin improving year on year. Though revenue declined over the years, operating profit improved drastically year on year in last four years. Its very clear that improved gross profit is helping to maintain the higher operating profit. Return on Capital Employed: 2012 2013 2014 2015 EBIT 2,919 2,986 3,145 3,480 Total Asset 23,948 24,826 24,898 27,191 Current Liability 9,255 7,551 7,687 7,708 Operating Profit % 19.87% 17.29% 18.27% 17.86% The above table shows that total asset increased over the years when current liability witness declined. It shows capital employed to the company increased over the years. Also, earnings before interest and tax improved year and year. The trend of return on capital employed is not showing any pattern and expect a marginal decline in 2013, the ratio is trading in the narrow range. Net Asset Turnover: 2012 2013 2014 2015 Revenue 19,265 18,416 18,287 17,979 Total Asset 23,948 24,826 24,898 27,191 Current Liability 9,255 7,551 7,687 7,708 Net Asset Turnover 1.31 1.07 1.06 0.92 Net asset turnover shows a clear trend. Memo Choice Essay Sample

Memo Choice Essay SampleAs part of my MBA in Executive MBA Student Project, we were given a chance to choose an essay sample, which we would be given to use in our own assignment. This was the first time I had read this book and read through the essay samples in the book. The students who chose the essay, were given an easy to use set of sample essays. Since it was only a student project, there was no price tag placed on these essays, just that they were free to use. It was explained to us in class that there was a certain amount of work that would need to be done for each essay before they could even be used in a real assignment. Each essay was assigned a certain components. They were graded on how well they covered each section of the essay. The student who got the highest grade on all of their essays, would be given an A grade.Choosing one essay sample that stood out for you, is totally up to you. What about one that you feel you could write better than another? Another thing you ca n do is pick two or three essays from the sample to use.I actually thought the sample essays were more difficult to write than the original essay. Since it was a fairly short essay that we could all use and not worry about how we did, we decided to try it out. Some of us did not get as high of a grade as others, but we all learned something new.The cost of the memo choice essay sample was fairly inexpensive. This is a good thing for people who want to write their own memo in order to have an essay that is extremely cheap and very easy to use. This is also a good way to get some college credit, if needed.Personally, I found this book very informative and made me want to learn a lot more about what I already knew. If I was going to write my own essay, I would choose one that had the same topic or one that I already know a lot about.Overall, I was very impressed with the memo choice essay sample that I chose. As far as a quick and easy homework assignment, I found that I was able to wo rk on it within my class time.

Herodotus essays

Herodotus essays Herodotus was a Greek historian, generally called the Father of History. The work of Herodotus is the oldest surviving major Greek prose and the first history in Western civilization. He was born at Halicarnassus, a Greek state under Persian rule, in southwestern Asia Minor. After a civil war, he left his homeland for good and spent some time in nearby Ionia. Then he traveled widely: as far south as Elephantine in Egypt; eastward into Asia to Babylon; and north to the far coast of the Black Sea. He lived in Periclean Athens for a while and took part in the Athenian colonization of Thurii in southern Italy in 433. Since he referred to early events of the Peloponnesian War, he must have lived past 431. His tomb was later shown at Thurii, but it is possible that he died in Athens, where he recited some of his history. The preface of his history begins, These are the researches of Herodotus of Halicarnassus, which he publishes, in the hope of thereby preserving from decay the remembrance of what men have done. He sought to describe and explain great wars before his own generation. To Herodotus, two ways of life were opposed to one another in these wars-the freedom of the Greeks and the despotism of the Persians; nevertheless, he was so fair to the Persians that he was called in later ages friend to the barbarian. Herodotus was also deeply interested in the geography and ethnography of the lands he had visited, and he discussed the customs he found there in great deal. As he states in Book II, chapter 123, of his history, I propose to myself throughout my whole work faithfully to record the traditions of the several nations, particularly if they produced entertaining stories. His account, however, does not take up the period of myth and epic to any extent. He was skeptical of the story of King Minos thalassocracy in Crete, and he doubted that Helen ever went to Troy...

What challenges do the educational philosophies of Paulo Freire and Research Paper

What challenges do the educational philosophies of Paulo Freire and Waldorf schools pose - Research Paper Example What challenges do the educational philosophies of Paulo Freire and Waldorf schools pose? The Waldorf schools on the other hand rely on the educational philosophy which was developed by Steiner Rudolph. The educational philosophy of the Waldorf schools is mainly based on the belief that various developmental stages in children are the best when it comes to children learning different things. This is so because it is believed that children can only learn different things in life when their physical, spiritual and intellectual capabilities are in terms with the kind of information presented to them (Petrash, 2002). The essay below seeks to address the challenges posed by the educational philosophies of the Waldorf schools and Paulo Freire to the testing requirements of state and local school districts. The testing requirements in the state and local district schools have received challenges in various ways by the educational philosophy of Paulo Freire. Most of the state and local district schools have a tendency of not giving their students a voice of their own. Therefore i f, the Paulo philosophy is incorporated in the local and state district schools, then the students will tend to be more demanding. In such cases when students are more demanding, the relationship between the students and the teachers becomes mayhem (Freire, 2000). Once the teacher-student relationship becomes chaotic, then the testing requirements of the schools are negatively affected. The students may feel oppressed by the teachers when the teachers fail to meet their demands, and this makes them be violent. Another challenge posed by the educational philosophy by Paulo Freire to the testing requirements of the local and state district schools is when the students accuse teachers of being irresponsible and disobliging in the sense that they fail to listen to the opinions brought about by the students. Such situation demoralizes the students to the extent of them not performing well in their school work (Irwin, 2012). Since most of the local and state district schools have a tenden cy of allowing their teachers to provide students with knowledge, the educational philosophy by Paulo Freire may be a challenge to the testing requirements of the schools. The educational philosophy by Paulo Freire advocates that teachers and students should interact equally in the acquisition of knowledge so that students may learn to have a voice in the oppressive society. It becomes a challenge because once students are used to being fed with knowledge by their teachers, it is quite difficult for them to interact with the teachers and give out their opinion on what they are taught (Dewey, 2009). Students in most of the district schools do not know how to interpret the knowledge they learn in school in the real world. In most occasions, these students tend to memorize what their teachers feed them with and fail to know what the knowledge they have been fed with really means in the real world. This becomes a significant challenge to the testing requirements of the local and state d istrict schools. For this case, the students continue being the oppressed, and that they lack to obtain the powers of speaking for themselves (Freire, 2000). Another challenge that is posed by the educational philosophy of Paulo Freire to the testing requirements of the district schools is the fact that teachers in these schools tend to fear engaging with students in

Media and Culture (Response Paper) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Media and Culture (Response Paper) - Essay Example It was now the "media gatekeepers' (Sreberny-Mohammadi, 1995, p38), broadcasting either by radio originally and then Magazine, they had the power to decide and edit what information lots of thousands and later millions of people would see and be prejudiced by. Again re-iterating the point that whoever is dispensing the information has the power, as well as whomever he/she is dispensing to is get hold of a little bit of that power. "Predisposition toward an international investment environment, and the integration of nationwide capital markets (biz.yahoo.com)".Globalization is growing mixing of financial system and societies around the earth have been one of the most hotly-debated topics in global economics. But globalization has also generated important global opposition over concerns that it has increased disparity and environmental degradation.
